About us
Vision Statement: Heidi’s Academy International will bring our theatrical production to venues across the country and locally, with high quality professional theatre shows and performing arts education.
Mission Statement: Heidi’s Academy International Theatre Program is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Our sequence of classes in acting, script analysis, improvisation, musical theatre compel young artists to work to their full potential. Using theatre to have fun, build self-esteem, encourage creative thinking and self confidence. HAI will be an active part of the cultural growth of our community through collaboration with residents, local businesses, other non-profit organizations and traveling abroad.

Heidi Yancey is originally from Newark, Delaware, she was raised by Joe and Diane Yancey. Heidi has four brothers and she is the only girl. At the age of five years old, Heidi would watch the television show “Fame” and she became inspired by the well- known performer Debbie Allen. She started taking her first dance class which was ballet. Heidi was the only African American girl in her class, so she faced many difficult challenges. By the age thirteen Heidi was taking ballet, tap, and jazz. With the intense training throughout the years Heidi auditioned for the Ballet “Cinderella.”She made the lead role, the fairy God Mother then, Heidi made history by becoming,” Delaware’s First African American Ballerina.” Professional Dancers came from all over to see this African American Ballerina dance in the ballet which was un-heard off. After the success Heidi was offered to train at the highest prestigious ballet schools such as New York City Ballet, Dance Theatre Of Harlem, Philadelphia Ballet, New York School Of The Arts and Duke Ellington School Of The Arts. Heidi chose Duke Ellington School Of The Arts the number one Performing Arts School in the U.S. During Heidi’s high school year, she became runner-up for MS WASHINGTON, DC TEEN USA. After high school Heidi attended Philadelphia University Of The Arts where she was the first African American who majored in Ballet. There she exceled being a lead dancer. Just to name a few….she was the lead for the Ballet “Giselle”. Heidi went on to perform with prestigious dance companies such as: Alvin Aiely Dance Company, Russian Ballet Company, Oberlin Dance Company, and she perform in the Broadway Musical, Bubbling Brown Sugar, Wiz, and Annie, just to name a few. Heidi was recognized as “Delawares Most Accomplished Achiever.” Through-out her years of traveling Heidi had special appearances on the well-known television show “Greys Anatomy”, “Private Practice” and Children’s TV Shows.” She has choreograph for the well-known R&B Award Singer Chaka Khan, choreographed for professional dance companies and she’s a traveling dance and pageant judge.
Heidi has been teaching for thirty-five years in the performing arts. She opened her own Performing Arts School in July 2000, called “Heidis Academy International” which consist of all forms of dances theatre classes, and vocal classes. Heidi’s Academy International has been opened for 25 years offering the Performing Arts. The school has serviced thousands of students. The school is presently located in Orlando, Florida. Heidi Yancey is presently the Performing Arts Director at the Bradley-Otis Boys and Girls Club in Orlando, Florida, which is the first Performing Arts Boys and Girls Club across the country and teaches for the Orlando Ballet School. Through all the challenges she faced in the Ballet world and being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and being told she would not survive and losing mobility in her body she believed… I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
